The mission of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Nuclear Fission- Next Generation Nuclear, is to develop future research leaders to support the UK’s strategic nuclear programmes including nuclear legacy clean-up, new build power stations and, defence and security.
We operate in partnership with four other universities including Lancaster, Leeds, Liverpool and Sheffield and we work with all the UK’s major industrial and regulatory bodies including Amec, Areva, AWE, EDF, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, the National Nuclear Laboratory, Rolls-Royce, and Sellafield Ltd.
Next Generation Nuclear follows on from Nuclear First, which in 2013 recruited its final cohort of students. The first intake of students for this new programme will begin in September 2014 and will include between 14 and 18 fully funded PhD studentships across universities involved in the Nuclear First partnership.
